Crowning Criterium

What a marvellous day for riding down wind or marshalling.  Eight elite racing machines did a bit of sweeping before the race began, then over the start line they fled for the gruelling twenty minutes and a bit plus two lap race.

Rhonda Bradley led the pack leaders for a few seconds at the 7 min mark.  A position she should be very proud of, but alas this foursome were already one lap ahead.  She was later picked up by Darryl Sheilds who coaxed and coached her over the finish line.  Darryl was first lapped at 11 mins then again with Rhonda at 13 mins.  There was no mercy and no handicapping in today's race.

Tom Thuijs had a peaceful ride. He saw a little action at 13 mins when the awesome foursome over took him.

Julie Firth selected Darryl's wheel to hold on to at the start of the race with the thought that he would make a impermeable windbreak. But this also meant that visibility was down and to her disappointment she didn't notice soon enough that the leaders had broken away.  She put in a massive effort to catch up, but was lapped by the leaders at 15 mins.

The lappers, not thinking of the broken egos they had left behind, the only riders who cam in with a time: Andre Eastough, Peter Johnson (Johno), Max Nowojee and Jonty Calder, who still has to use a smaller front chain ring, kept up with the old blokes most of the race.  Commendable effort Jonty.

At the sixteen minute mark the leaders parted company.  Andre, taking and staying in the front, passed the finish line 3 seconds before the twenty minute mark extending the race by an unexpected lap.  He later apologised for not using his brakes.  What a sportsman?  Second place goes to Johno who cruised passed Max in a sprint to the finish line.  Jonty finished fourth, less then a minute behind Andre.  Good work ole chaps.

Thank you Johno for the cakes.
