“Bring a Friend” Pairs Time Trial
Perfect riding conditions greeted 32 riders who turned up to
welcome in the start of the 2013 Spokes Cycle Club season. There were 14 new riders who powered their
way around the two lap 17.3km circuit in Waggrakine. Most former riders brought along a partner to
have a go at the ride. The focus was on
getting on your bike, having a go and seeing just how well you could ride. Most riders were pleasantly surprised by
their performance. Kelly and Andre
Eastough, Vicky Sheilds and Ros Ewings, Julie Wilton and Lara Brownly, Marissa
Drummond with Reggie Richardson all made great time as the new riders were well
supported by their partners.
The ride saw some “old timers” Tony Slater and Paul Wilson back
on the road. Paul Hearne made quick work
of the circuit finishing in 28.04 minutes at 37.4kph. Jon Tamm and Paul Matthews were 40 seconds
behind at 36.5kph with Tim Glenister and new comer Hagan Keating 22 seconds
behind them at 36kph. Father and son
rivalry was strong between Tim and Sam Glenister with Darryl pulling Sam around
at 34.4kph. Mort Harslett and Max Nowrojee are a force to watch finishing at
35.7 kph. Alex Godley was an excellent
partner for Jonty Calder who took line honours on handicap. Mark Hollander and Andrew Outhwaite pulled in
several pairs over the circuit. Andrew Toovey led a trio with Paul Wilson and new
comer Neal Robson making good time at 32.2kph.
Michael Reymond and Simon Fenby rode strongly at 31.4kph. Julie Firth supported Adrian Carter and Jean
Thompson and Rhonda Bradley made excellent time at 29.7kph.
There was a buzz at the finish line as riders checked their
positions and either celebrated their performance or made fervent commitments
to get on their bikes more often to improve their fitness. The next time trial is on Sunday 10th
Feb with everyone encouraged to bring their partner back again. If you can think of anyone who might enjoy
the challenge of this circuit get them on their bikes to join in the fun.
