Second Partner Time Trial 2013
Sunday 08:00 10 February 2013 Waggrakine
Summary Report
Firstly, a big thanks to our sponsor of today’s event - DRYLANDS PERMACULTURE – for all your gardening advice see Julie Firth. Thanks also to our major sponsor DRAGONFLY MEDIA for their fantastic support throughout the year. Our sponsors are helping to keep down our membership costs.
What a great turn out in such high temperatures, 39 riders - our best result so far for this year. A special big welcome to our nine first time partners; Markka Laine, Karin Van Dongen, Anthony and Leanne Liddell, Kylie and Mitchell Crabb, Dean Carroll, Brad Ewing and Dave Grace. The presence of ultra marathon rider Robbie Place and local cycling luminaries Jason Potts and Richard Correy added to the quality of the field.
First off on the 17.2 Km ride was Barbara Glenister with Markka and Karin. Unfortunately Markka had to retire with a flat tyre and Barbara brought Karin home under strong verbal encouragement that could be heard from Halls Rd! First to finish the first lap were Simon Fenby and Dean Carroll with a strong and smooth rhythm. Darryl Sheilds was again wearing his mentoring hat, this time with Dave Grace who was participating in his first event. To their credit they finished a very credible seventh place which we are sure Dave will be very chuffed about. Unfortunately Ian Andrews and Jennie Haste discovered they had to adjust a wheel that was rubbing on the forks and Kylie Crabb’s GPS fell off and their race hopes faded. Hagan Keating and Tim Glenister’s regular training together paid off with an impressive time of under 30 mins to take 5th place. The large field of riders masked the fine efforts and close results of many others riders such as Tom Davis & Paul Mathews (3rd place), John Tamm & Tom Thuijs (6th place), Reg Salmon & Mark Hollander (8th place), Neal Robson & Julie Firth (9th place)
Andre & Kellie Eastough and Mort Haslett & Max Nowrojee were riding together again but couldn’t beat their previous time; however riding with new partner saw improved times from Reggie Richardson, Jean Thompson, Simon Fenby, Mark Hollander and Paul Mathews. The Eastough and Liddell teams both made the race a comfortable family event.
However all credit goes to Robbie Place and Richard Correy for their flawless ride for first place in a stunning time of 26 min and 59 secs (average speed of over 39Km/hr). Jonty Calder and Jason Potts came in second place just 43 seconds later. Jonty’s race performance and talent continues to improve with each meeting.
Thanks again goes to our organising staff Jarrod Bell (time keeping), Barbara Glenister (for helping our new event coordinator) and Rhonda Bradley for traffic management.
Our next event is on the 24 February over the same course but it will be an individual time trial over 2 or 3 circuits. There will be a mass start rather than handicap starts. Look forward to seeing you all there.
